Flowers for your Business > Choosing Your Bouquet

wedding flowers
You may have a specific bouquet design in mind or you may be unsure as to the style, flowers and/or colours you want. You may be uncertain as to whether you want a bouquet at all, perhaps preferring other body flowers such as trailing wrist corsages, flowers on the hip or shoes, etc. The possibilities for the bride’s flowers are endless but if you do choose a bouquet there are some basic guidelines that can help you decide on a bouquet that you will love and that will look terrific with your dress and body shape. Remember, these are guidelines only and if you want a different style of bouquet then go for it!

Although white remains very popular as a colour for the bride’s bouquet, you can choose any colour you want. If you have a sample of your wedding dress material then this will help to ensure that the flowers chosen will complement the colours and textures of your outfit. Tropical flowers can bring bold and exciting colours and exotic forms. Many flowers are readily available all year round so that brides can choose rich or muted shades as they desire. Seasonal flowers will echo the time of year you marry and be better value. If you have specific flowers in mind for your bouquet remember to check that they will be available at the time of year that you are getting married. Although most flowers can be obtained at all times of year by importing them from around the world, the cost of some of them will rise dramatically.

The main classic shapes for bridal bouquets are as follows:

Hand-tied. These bouquets look good with most dress shapes. Small brides need to be sure their chosen hand-tied design is in proportion to them, and their dress. Larger designs can be overpowering and heavy for someone with a small frame. A more delicate wired posy can provide an alternative for the bride who wants a round bouquet that is neat and light.
Overarm. These beautiful bouquets look wonderful with slim dress designs, sophisticated and fluid in form.
Shower. A bouquet that looks good with traditional-styled, full dresses and that will suit the taller bride, or a bride with a fuller figure.
Tear-drop. These bouquets have quite a compact appearance. They are good for traditional fuller dress designs and for those with fuller figures.
Trailing designs. Work well with taller brides, calf-length dresses, A-line full-length dresses, etc.

Each of these designs will vary in appearance according to the flowers, foliage and other materials used and to the proportions of the bouquet. The handle of your bouquet will also be finished in a way that harmonises with the design. Remember, these are just the main classic shapes, you could choose a pomander, heart, muff, etc. or something truly unique to you.
